A Clinical Study and Diet of Stomach Cancer


Abstract
The authors made a clinical study of 140 cases of stomach cancer who had been treated at Pusan Gospel Hospital from Jan. 1970 to Dec. 1971 and got the following results.
1. The most frequent age of stomach cancer was 50-59 years old (40. 0%) and male to female ratio was 2.1 : 1.
2. Ratio from onset of symptoms to physical examination within 3 months (32.1%), 3-6 months (32.1%), 6 months-1 year (16.4%) and within 1 year was 80.6%.
3. Most frequent symptoms were indigestion 86 cases (6.L4%), epigastric fullness with pain 81 cases (57.9%), vomiting 52 cases (37. 1%) and weight loss 37 cases (26.4%).
4. Laboratory finding of gastric juice were achlorhydria 33.3%, hypochl.orhydria
22.2%, normochlorhydria 30.5%, and hyperchlorhydria 14% in this study.
5. Most common type of blood was A type (43.6%).
6. Right diagnosis were 118 cases (84.3%) and false were 22 cases (15.7%) in pre-operative examination.
7. Operative methods were subtotal gastrectomy 102 cases (72. 9%) and total gastrectomy 17 cases (11. 1%).
8. Post operative complications were 24 cases (16.9%) and most frequent were
diarrhea (7. 1%). Dumping syndroms after gastrectomy were not found.
9. Recovery of gastro-intestinal peristaltic movement on the second day were 74 cases (52. 9%) and on the third day were 35 cases (25%).
10. Removal of levine tube surgery on the second day were 53 cases (37.9%) the first. day 42 cases (30%) and the third day were 27 cases (19.3%).
11. Duration of hospitalization after surgery from 1 week to 2 weeks was 105 cases (75%).
12. Appetite after operation was poor 52 cases (37.1%), good 17 cases (12.1%)and fair 12 cases (8.6%).
13. Orally in taking after surgery on the third day 50cases (35.7%), second day
40 cases (28. 6%) and 4th day were 34 cases (24.3%).
14. Orally taking after gastrectomy. It will be expected to give diet as soon as possible after surgery, so that patient can recovery sooner time.
